Aging is irritating
You recall great events
Amazing kindnesses
Bodies carefree but not careless
Want them back
My old friends and I began a new game
Read each other fairy tales so that we can sleep
But we tired of dragons, demons, dancing druids
Instead agreed to create our own:
The Dodo revives and gets its own theme park
Cats and dogs form a new workers’ union
Pet owners discover they do have rights
Young people like love more than work
Exceptions realize they’re not exceptional
Required for every rule and ruler
Bribery sees it’s illegal and feels shame
Sanity stops skulking and finds it’s not lost
The unmentionable stays unsaid
Killer robots prefer soccer, start a league
Art becomes an art of artisans
Space is not a place for war
Desk drawers stay closed
Reservations leave their reservations
People think before they speak three or more times
All species recall the globe is small
But I’m and old and become more stupid
Prefer the unknowable to the unthinkable
Now the world thinks differently
And I no longer have a vote
If you believe there’s a reason for everything
Please let her know
And implore her to come back
The Earth misses her
Old folks too
Maybe you?
